Hey, everyone. Have you ever gone to your local library to do research on published novels, only to find that they're shockingly lacking when it comes to fantasy novels?

Happened to me yesterday. From what I experienced, most of the books I saw there were either less than tasteful romance novels and historical, WWII era fiction. Now, I suppose that isn't too bad, but I'm not sure if that's the best thing for me personally to learn from. I prefer avoiding romance in my stories because of how easily they can spiral out of control and devour the more interesting main plot, and I feel WWII era stories are overdone and cliched. So, in my attempts to find something to bring back and read, I picked the only Fantasy novel there. That being John Gwynne's Malice.

And I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it.

In the prologue alone, it does so many things that I've read to never do in your story. It's liberal about stating how the characters are feeling, uses words that end in "ing" with reckless regard, and has a massive exposition dump shortly after the prologue about the setting. From what I read online, though, it isn't a bad book, though. On GoodReads, it currently sits at 4.10/5 stars so... I don't know. Maybe the book was made before such things were considered "bad" in the writing community. Who can say? In any case, it may just be a general clash of preferred writing styles. I may just need to give it more thought...

Regardless, I do have a question. What are some books you'd recommend reading through? Besides the obviously famous ones like Harry Potter, of course. Those are definitely on my to-read list. I have no real objections to any genres outside of what I already brought up, though I can't say I'm big on mystery novels. While they are good to read, I don't feel like I'm someone who can pull them off effectively myself.

On an unrelated note, I've also been playing around in Game Maker. Learning the basic surprisingly isn't all that hard. I've been following a tutorial that's been basically teaching you how to remake Asteroids, which has all the very barebone basics that can be applied to many other games from what I understand. Not sure if I'll be able to get anything serious out of it; I can make okay-ish sprites but have no clue how to make music from scratch, but I would like to try making an RPG or platformer in it.

I suppose I could get some help on the sprites and the music, but any game I would seriously attempt to make I would likely want to sell, and I'm not sure how I would be able to pay people for sprites and music, or if they get a cut of the profits from the final product or not. Looking it up online hasn't helped. It just keeps bringing up how much game makers make; which is honestly a tempting reason to go for it, but again, this is one major problem I'd have to sort out first...

May try to make a fangame(s) in the meantime, though. Spyro in the style of Mega Man or EarthBound, anyone? /shot

Other than that, I don't really have much else to say. As such, this is TokoWH, signing off. Have a nice day! :D

:bulletgreen: :bulletgreen: :bulletgreen: FAQs: PLEASE READ BEFORE ASKING ME ANYTHING! :bulletgreen: :bulletgreen: :bulletgreen:

:bulletgreen: Do you take request?
Maybe. Haven't done it yet in my time on dA, but I might if I feel confident in my abilities.

:bulletgreen: Do you do gift art?
Sometimes, if I really like your character's design enough.

:bulletgreen: Do you do trades?
No. I'm not confident enough in my abilities for that yet.

:bulletgreen: How about commissions?
Actual money commissions are a no, due to not having a PayPal account. As for point commissions... Maybe. I've had them open before and have done a few, but for the most part, I end up panicking over how it looks and end up generally driving myself up a wall as a result. I'll occasionally open them if I really need the points, but... Don't be surprised if I end up canceling halfway...

:bulletgreen: Can we be friends?
You can feel free to talk to me at any time, and we might become friends over time, but asking to be friends is silly. Friendship is developed over time by people getting to know each other well enough, and not by asking. (Though, if you're only doing it in hopes of getting free art, then don't even bother. Seriously. Don't be that guy. Nobody likes that guy. :/)

:bulletgreen: Can I draw/use your characters?
So long as you keep them in character to their bios and don't use/draw them in any 'overly suggestive' situations (porn, nudity, 'innocent innuendo', fetish related material) then sure, go ahead. :)

:bulletgreen: Do you have a schedule when it comes to uploading art?
Nope. In one month, I can upload tons of drawings, and then disappear for a year. For the most part, I've moved on to writing stories and ref art at this point.

:bulletgreen: What programs do you use?
I use to use a combination of Paint Tool Sai and GIMP, but thanks to certain circumstances, I've now moved on to a combination of Inkscape, Krita, and GIMP.

:bulletgreen: Can I tag you?
No. I don't do tags. :/

:bulletgreen: Can I link to one of my drawings on one of your pages?
Unless you're showing me the finished drawing I commissioned you for or showing me gift art you've drawn, No. I don't like people advertising on my profile/journals/drawings. I've had people do that before on my drawings and it really pisses me off. Not only is it disrespectful to me to ignore all the effort I put into my drawings just to advertise your own stuff, it just makes you look like an attention whore.

And no, saying 'hey thx 4 the fav/llama/watch why not check out this' does not excuse you from this. If you do that, the comment will be hidden.

:bulletgreen: Can you give me points?
Sorry, but no. I don't just randomly give out points on a whim.

:bulletgreen: Who are some of your inspirations?

Since everyone does this, I might as well too. Art wise...

:iconsan-renard: :iconfyre-flye:

Story-wise, I don't believe any of them have any dA accounts. They're more personal stories in that regard, and I don't feel like going into full detail about them quite yet, so... yeah. ^^;

My plz accounts:

This also goes for llamas and watches. I get you're grateful, but it's annoying to see a comment in my feed only for it to be something unimportant like this, not to mention some people use it as an excuse to advertise their own pages.
